Gone are the days...
Remember the hushed tones, the stern consternations, the haze of diluted light as it streamed through darkening blinds of the library? Even then, many of us found reading fun. But not enough of us found the library to be fun.
Fun, however, cannot superceed learning, cannot be allowed to undermine the primary focus of teaching. But fun does help, when properly administered. It allows curiosities to be pursued without being stifled, risks to be taken without fear and growth to occur right before a teacher's eyes.
I believe it is imperative for students to experience the sheer joy of reading and my job is to help them discover the absolutely boundless world contained in a library. Truly, the world is just a finger walk away, waiting to be seen by any student at any time.
